Order of Service



Proclaiming the Light (Stand)

L: Spirit of the Risen Christ, as the lamps light up the evening, shine into our hearts and kindle in us the fire of your love.

C: Amen.

Lighting of Candles (Stand)

L: We give you thanks that You led our forebears in the Faith by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night; we give You thanks, kindly Light, that the torch of faith was brought into this land, and that you ever lead your people on.

C: The light of Christ has come into the world.

Invocation (Sit or Kneel)

L: Light up our dark hearts, O God, by the light of your Christ; may His Word illumine our way, for you pour forth loving kindness upon your whole creation, Father, Son (+), and beaming Spirit.

C: The light of Christ has come into the world. Amen.

1st Canticle (Stand)

L: May the Light of lights come to our dark hearts;

C: May the Spirit's wisdom come to us from our Savior.

L: The peace of the Spirit be ours this night,

C: The peace of the Son be ours this night,

L: The peace of the Father be ours this night,

C: The peace of all peace be ours this night,

A: Each morning and evening of our lives.

L: We offer to You, O Lord, the troubles of this day;

C: We lay down our burdens at your feet.

L: Lord, You are my island, in your bosom I rest.

A: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Closing Prayer (Sit or Kneel)

L: Lord Jesus Christ, Light of the world, by your Cross You have overcome all darkness that oppresses. Come and shine on us that we may grow and live together in your love which makes us one with all humanity. Lighten our darkness, and in your great mercy defend us from all dangers and perils of this night, in the power of your most blessed Name.
